Local historians tell us that there were people living here 2500 years ago . A short wander through the town and the harbour area will tell you why.Wicklow is now a typical Irish country and seaside town attracted friend and foe. Take a walk to the lighthouse pier and to the ruins of the old Norman Keep that we call the Black Castle where you will see the fantastic vantage point the holders of this headland had over the bay to the north and the seas to the south. Visit the Historic Gaol where actors play the part of jailer and matron to get a feel for life from the 18th century on to more recent times. br / br / br / br / There are lots of lovely cafes and restaurants in the town and at night you can enjoy great Irish traditional or ballad music sessions. br / br / There are many activities in the area from golfing and hiking to horse riding kayaking angling and garden tours.
